Orlando “Lonnie” Moranino of Torrington, CT, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Silano) Moranino for 66 years.

Orlando was born on July 22, 1930 to the late Oclerio and Teresa (Fracassi) Moranino. After graduating from Torrington High School, stationed in Korea, he served honorably in The United States Air Force.  Upon his discharge, he was employed by Bonvicini Building Company before following his calling as a Connecticut State Trooper. During his career as a trooper, he worked undercover and also on the Governor’s Detail serving under Governor Ella Grasso and Governor William O’Neill. He was extremely proud and honored to be part of the state police family. Helping others was the way he lived his life. After 25 years, Lonnie retired to take a position with Cigna Corporation in Bloomfield, CT. 
He was a man who took pride in always being ready to help his family and friends whenever they needed him . His happiest days were spent with family; telling us his wonderful stories and memorable witty sayings.  His most famous one, which we all live by is,  “Do the job big or small, do it right or not at all”.  His relaxation was fishing, which he loved to share with his whole family. 
Besides his wife Rose, he is survived by his daughter Linda Paganini and loved  son-in-law Martin of Torrington, grandchildren Brian Paganini and wife Lindsay, Kara Muth and husband Michael of Harwinton.  David Moranino of Winsted, Alexis and Nicole Moranino of Torrington, their mother Marlene Moranino, great-grandchildren Tessa and Nicolas Paganini,  several nieces and nephews and his much loved cat, Max.  Lonnie was predeceased by his son Robert on November 17th, sisters Jacqueline Sesko, Victoria Roman and Frank Moranino. 

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Companions and Homemakers, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, his pals Dr. Dennis Gottfried and Dr. Jerome Takiff and numerous friends for their care and kindness.  A very special thank you to Sandra Nelson for always making him feel comfortable and loved. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held with his son on Friday, November 27th at St. John Paul the Great Parish, St Peter Church in Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  There are no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Phalen Funeral Home.
