<p>Clifford, Eugene Gilmore, 82, of Boise died November 20, 2020. Cremation is under the direction of Cremation Society of Idaho.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Clifford Eugene Gilmore, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday November 20, 2020 at his home in Boise, Idaho.He was born on August 18, 1938 in Tuttle, Idaho, the first of the four children of Dana and Helen Gilmore. He moved to Hagerman, Idaho with his parents in the early 1940&rsquo;s and graduated from Hagerman High School in May 1956. He married Dorothy May Davis on July 29th of that same year, and on the same day they began their journey to Alaska. Their drive included 1,700 mile over the mostly unpaved Alaska-Canadian Highway. They set up their home in Anchorage three years before Alaska became a state in 1959. There they raised their four boys, Eugene, Randy, Stephen and Joel.</p> <p>Clifford worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1956 to 1968. He worked as a mail carrier out of several offices including the Spenard Branch and the Elmendorf Air force Base, and started the first mail service in Turnagain, Alaska. Clifford was designated by the post office to deliver the mail to the badly damaged areas in Anchorage caused by the major earthquake of 1964.</p> <p>In 1971, he became owner and operator of Cliff &amp; Gary&rsquo;s Texaco at Tudor and Lake Otis in Anchorage. The Gilmore family moved to Chugiak about 20 miles from Anchorage. In 1974 he sold his Texaco Station and began working for the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department as a vehicle maintenance and repairman. He also served on a volunteer basis as the Assistant Fire Chief for the first two years, and then as the Fire Chief for seven years. After stepping down from Fire Chief, he remained with the Fire Department as one of four Captains until 2001. Then in 2010 he retired with a great deal of appreciation and fanfare given to him by the Fire Department and the citizens of Chugiak. Gilmore Hall (Fire Station) is named in his honor. In 2013, Clifford and Dorothy moved to Boise, Idaho.</p> <p>Clifford was a devoted church member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Boise. Always friendly and outgoing, he loved serving as a Church Greeter, and that love and joy was returned to him. He often joined other Church officials for a special breakfast meeting. On January 14, 2014 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and received his gift of salvation.</p> <p>Clifford experienced some physical health challenges and endured several major operations, which he always faced with courage and optimism. With every job and responsibility that he undertook, he did it to the very best of his abilities even during the times of physical pain. Clifford was always willing to help his friends and neighbors, and never failed to express his gratitude whenever anyone did something for him.</p> <p>He loved the rugged mountains, snowy terrains, and the wildlife of Alaska. He was an avid hunter and snowmobiler. He often shared his garage in Alaska and Boise with friends wanting to come out of the cold to work on their car and chat. He loved to visit with strangers as well as friends and family. He had so many wonderful stories to tell about his adventures in Alaska, which included volunteer service for the state during its major floods and earthquakes, as well as having a career as a firefighter and medic.</p> <p>Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Helen Gilmore, Sister Carol Ann (Gilmore) Williams and brother Vernon Gilmore.</p> <p>His is survived by wife Dorothy, his four children, Gene Gilmore of Boise, Steve (Judy) Gilmore of Boise, Randy (Anita) of Wasilla, Alaska, and Joel (Kara) of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Vicky Jo Rolson of Twin Falls Idaho.
