<p><strong>Evelyn Bernice Kennerly Young</strong>, 94, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Novant Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.</p> <p>Born on April 4, 1926 in Mt. Ulla, North Carolina; Evelyn was a daughter of the late William Cornelius Kennerly and Lillie Stewart Kennerly. In addition to her parents Evelyn is preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Cornelius Kennerly, Robert Lee Kennerly, and James Stewart Kennerly and two sisters, Louise Kennerly Johnston Efird and Pauline Elizabeth Kennerly.</p> <p>As a lifelong area resident, Evelyn spent her career working for local textile mills as an executive secretary, retiring from Dominion Textiles Inc. in 1989. She enjoyed attending church and was a lifelong member of Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Mt. Ulla. Evelyn was a proud member of the John Knox chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.</p> <p>&nbsp;Evelyn and her beloved Jerry enjoyed having their meals at Kannapolis&rsquo; local establishments; their breakfast and lunchtimes were shared at Mike Mahaley&rsquo;s Village Grill and often enjoyed their almost daily visits to the Townhouse II; a community restaurant favorite! A most treasured pastime of Evelyn&rsquo;s was her frequent shopping trips to Virginia&rsquo;s Dress Shop where she bought her finest wardrobe pieces throughout her life. The ladies there have always been her sincere friends and she enjoyed their fashion expertise as well as their friendly conversation.&nbsp;</p> <p>Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Jerry K. Young Jr., whom she married on June 2, 1962. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces and their families.</p> <p>Evelyn will lie in-state with her husband, Jerry, at Whitley&rsquo;s Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, November 30. There will be a double funeral service with her husband, at Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Mt.
