Theodore "Ted" Guercio

Theodore “Ted” Guercio, 97, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2020. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and graduated from Central Tech High School. Ted was an Army Air Corps veteran and enjoyed sharing his WWII experiences with students in several CNY high schools. A self-made man, he owned and operated Onondaga Driving Academy, where he taught driving to people for nearly 70 years. Ted was a very active member of the East Genesee and First United Presbyterian Churches where he held key leadership positions and volunteered at their food pantry. He was recently attending University United Methodist Church. Ted was a people person who enjoyed his family, SU sports, the Yankees, golfing and working with the youth. Ted was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Doris Cleveland. Together they enjoyed extensive travel and winters in Florida. He was also predeceased by his brother, Louis. Surviving are his son, Bill (Jackie) Guercio of Onondaga Hill; grandsons, Eric (Megan) Guercio of Westvale and Evan (Arthur) Guercio of Cicero; sisters, Linda Galuppo of North Syracuse and Lee Bianchi of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Summerfield for their loving care and compassion given to Ted. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, November 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Face coverings are required.
