Neil Glenn Hoffmann, 66 years and 8 months of age, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, MT. Neil was born on March 17, 1954 in Tigerton, Wisconsin to Duane Frederick and Joyce Marie (Wildung) Hoffmann. The family resided in Tigerton until 1955, and then moved to Lewistown, MT. When Neil’s parents divorced he moved to Virginia, Minnesota.
Neil graduated from high school in 1972, and then in 1975 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. He furthered his education at the University of North Dakota with a Civil Engineer Degree in 1976 and in 1982 completed a Millwright Apprenticeship and was certified in USX Pipe Welding.
Neil never married. He had extensive amount of schooling and a diverse working career. Neil was a “Surveyor of Life”. From 1975 to 1988, Neil worked as a Surveyor /Civil Engineer for LTV Steel in Iron Range, MN. (1977-1978) Drafter for Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway, (1978-1981) Millwright for USX Corp., Mintac Division-Iron Range, (1983-1986) St. Louis County Highway Dept and Dept. of Land Inv. Drafter/Engneering Dept.
Neil moved to Montana after LTV Steel (Taconite Mine) closed down. In the mid 90’s, Neil worked as a Fencing-Boundry Technician at RHR, Winifred, MT and light construction. He enjoyed his employment working on the renovation of the Calvert Hotel and Judtih Theatre in Lewistown, MT. From 2010-2020 Neil worked at Hi-Heat Industries as a Production Assembler.
Neil was a Life NRA Member (Patron Level), Certified Firearms Instructor, Marksman Certified-M1, Amateur 35mm photographer, enjoyed being a mentor/instructor/leader for Webelos and Cub Scouts while living in Minnesota, and has been a lifelong Lutheran and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Neil is survived by his siblings, Warren (Kimberly) Hoffmann of Helena, MT and Jay (Mary) Hoffmann of Billings, MT; nephews, Benjamin, Jesse, and Paul; and niece, Allissa. He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Hoffman (1997); mother, Joyce Marie Roberts (2014); and grandparents.
A viewing will be held at Creel Funeral Home on Friday, December 4th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Saturday, December 5th, 1:00 p.m. (limited seating - Covid guidelines apply). Interment will follow at the Winifred Cemetery. Memorial donations are requested to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
