Jon Kent Knedler Obituary

Jon Kent Knedler, age 77, of Unionville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at his home.

Jon was born on February 6, 1943 in Farmington, Iowa, the son of Paul and Verna (Smith) Knedler.  He graduated from Harmony High School.  He was married to Donna Kay Jennings in 1980.

Jon lived in Mt. Pleasant, and worked for JI Case.  After early retirement, the couple moved to Stockton, Missouri, and then spent many years in southern Texas, enjoying the sun, swimming, golfing, playing tennis, and riding motorcycles.

Jon loved music and played in a band called “The Wanderers”, making lifelong friends.  He brought dance bands to his community in Alamo, Texas.  Jon loved to go to South Padre Island and listen to music and enjoyed the beach atmosphere.  He was a great Elvis impersonator, who loved Elvis Presley and Rock and Roll music.

Jon loved to have fun, and would often take his family on vacations, including going to Major League Baseball games and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Left to honor Jon’s memory are his wife of 40 years, Donna Knedler of Unionville, Iowa; his children, Julie (Scott) Shaffer of Donnellson, Iowa, Lisa Ferrell of Overland Park, Kansas, and Belinda Nichols (Tod DeJong) of Unionville, Iowa; grandchildren, Grant Shaffer, Megan (Scott) Huffman, Chrissy (Brad) Nelson, and Brooke (Tony) Ambrose; great grandchildren, Aiden and Owen Huffman, Connell Ambrose, Piper and Lia Nelson, and Josie Olson; a sister, Janey (Frank) Huston of Ottumwa; and two nephews.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Verna Knedler; a brother, Dick Knedler; a grandson, Ryan Nichols; and a nephew.

There will be no formal services at this time, but the family wants to let their extended family and friends know, that they may stop by the family home briefly to greet the family over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Memorials have been established to EveryStep Hospice, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Knedler family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
