James H. Carroll Obituary

James H. Carroll (Jim) of Bridgewater, New Jersey, (formerly of Bogota, New Jersey and Hemlock Farms, Pennsylvania) died peacefully with the full knowledge that he was so very loved.  Jim was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Marion F. Carroll.  He is survived by his five children:  Patricia, James (Della), Maureen Bartke (Richard), Michael, and Mary-Lynn Crosta (Alan); 13 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.   Jim was the second child of the late John and Alice Carroll and was predeceased by his five brothers:  John, Thomas, Joseph, William, and Russell. He is survived by his two sisters, Margaret Spadaccini and Mary Alice Haran.

Jim served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II and spoke often about his experiences during his distinguished service in the Pacific Theatre.  Soon after returning home, he settled happily into a job with Unilever in Edgewater, NJ, from which he would retire after a career of more than 35 years.   Shortly thereafter, Jim met Marion and together they spent the next few decades raising their family.  With their children grown, Jim and Marion built their dream home and retired to Hemlock Farms where they enjoyed a full next chapter with family and friends.  Together they took up new hobbies, including square dancing and traveling.

Jim always found time for his television, and he was happy whenever he could find a sporting event or western movie. Jim also enjoyed the history channel and appreciated hearing about others' experiences. He became somewhat of a storyteller, and as the unofficial family historian, he would regale us with stories from his life with delight, amazing clarity, and great detail. But, at the end of the day, Jim was never happier than when he was surrounded by his loving family.

The Carroll family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, 2:00 until 5:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. A funeral mass will be held Friday, November 27, 2020, 10:30 AM at St. Luke’s RC Church, 340 Franklin Tpk., HoHoKus. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
