Josie C. Chavez El Mirage, Arizona Obituary

Josie C. Chavez

Josie C. Chavez a.k.a. “Fina” Born 5/17/1929 and Entered into rest on 11/18/2020 Josie had a wonderful long life. She always brought joy and laughter to those who were around her. She had a very distinct laugh and chuckle that was addictive. She always had a pep in her step and a “hippiddy hop” to her walk. She was always ready for fun. Josie worked as a seamstress at Goobers, she was a chef at El Rey Café and at La Canasta in her early years and followed her husband to all his gigs. Then she went on to be head kitchen chef at several different childcare facilities. She loved to cook, and if you ask anyone of her grandchildren, they can all attest to Nana being the best Chef ever. Her food was the best around, no restaurant could compare to her homemade food. Josie had three loves in her life, her family first, cooking for her family and friends and playing BINGO. Bingo was her passion. Bingo kept her going. She lived for BINGO. She played BINGO 4 days a week. She played at the Elk’s Lodge in Glendale and at the American Legion in Downtown Glendale. Her friend’s there meant everything to her, she would even arrive two hours before start time to save her table, eat her dinner, and socialize with her friends and wouldn’t get home until 10pm. She used to tell her family, “Don’t plan anything on a BINGO day as I won’t attend because of BINGO”;you can say she loved BINGO as that always came first. She is preceded in death by her father Alfonso Cardenas, mother Julia Fierros Deleon, Step-father Jesus Deleon, husband Joe M. Chavez, sons Danny Chavez and Ernie Chavez, and sisters Alicia Rodriguez and Casimira Padilla. She is survived by her two brothers Gilbert Cardenas and Alfonso Cardenas II; children Irene Valenzuela (Tony ), Joe Chavez Jr (Margie), Alfred Chavez (Rosie) and daughter in-law Phyllis Chavez. She had 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and her favorite two grand-dogs Buddie and Dude. She was a Beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother, Sister, grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Heaven definitely has another Angel to watch over us. We Love you Nana Josie.
