Constance "Connie" Lakas Weiss Obituary

Constance Lakas Weiss, 64, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Born in Orange, NJ, and raised in West Caldwell, NJ, Connie resided in Bridgewater, NJ for over 30 years. Connie graduated from James Caldwell High School in 1974 where she excelled in math and science. After graduating, Connie attended Rutgers University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Physiology. While at Rutgers, she played for the Scarlet Knights Basketball and Softball Teams. Connie loved working at her job at Johnson & Johnson, but chose to retire from her career as a Cardiology Research Scientist after her second child, Lyndsay, was born. Connie devoted the next 15 years of her life being an active stay-at-home mother to her three children. When all her children were older, Connie started her second career as an Office Administrator for The Center for Spiritual Living Morristown, where she worked part time so she could continue to focus on her primary role as “mom”. Connie continued to work at the Center up through July of this year. Connie’s passions always centered around helping others in whatever way she could. She was an active Board Member of The Meghan Rose Bradley Foundation, regularly donated to the local food bank and animal shelters, and supported all the local public service Organizations. She enjoyed going on hikes, doing puzzles, walking on the beach at Gay Head or just taking casual rides with her friends around Martha’s Vineyard where her family vacation home is located. Connie loved a relaxing night in, enjoying a glass of scotch whiskey with her daughter and closest friends. The whiskey came in handy on those stressful and colorful Friday nights of playing the card game “May I” with her husband, Steve, and their close friends, Bob and Ileen Bradley. She enjoyed movie nights with her family, going out to eat at new restaurants, and was a lifelong New York Giants and Yankees fan. Time spent with her sons, Ryan and Zack, and her father, Bill, during baseball and football games was likewise always a “colorful” event, particularly when it came to the Giants. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Bessie “Becky” Young Lakas, and a sister in law Francesca Lakas. Surviving are her loving husband of 35 years, Steven J. Weiss, two dear sons, Ryan Weiss and Zachary Weiss of Bridgewater, NJ; one loving daughter Lyndsay Weiss of Bradley Beach, NJ; her father, William Lakas of West Caldwell, NJ; one brother, Gregory Lakas of Bethesda, MD; a niece, Maria Cavallo and her husband, Tony Cavallo, a nephew Billy Lakas and his wife Crystal Lakas, and her canine companion, Russell, who never left her side. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date to be determined and will be held at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Meghan Rose Bradley Foundation, 6 Preston Drive, Branchburg, NJ 08876, The Center for Spiritual Living, 331 Mt Kemble Ave Morristown, NJ 07960 or the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater Township, NJ 08807 Committal is private. https://www.facebook.com/Branchburgfuneralhome/?view_public_for=104515614954986
