Paul C. Riley

Paul C. Riley, 73, of Gloucester, husband of Nancy J. (Drohan) Riley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was born in Gloucester, MA on April 8, 1947, son of the late Robert P. and Dorothy A. (Day) Riley. Paul was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1965 and U Mass with his Bachelor’s degree in 1971. He was a Physical Education teacher for 33 years at the O’Maley School. Paul enjoyed coaching hockey at all levels. He was a standout athlete in football and hockey at GHS, which landed him in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Paul enjoyed retirement spending time with family, golfing, boating and traveling with his wife, family and friends. His grandchildren Loved Grampy’s chocolate chip cookies. He was a member of the Rockport Golf Club and the Gloucester Lodge of Elks. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Paul is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy J. Riley of Gloucester; his daughter, Keri De Haan and her husband Joe of Gloucester; 2 sons, Shaun Riley of Maine, Kevin Riley and his fiancé Marlena of Gloucester; 9 grandchildren, Riley and Dylan De Haan of Gloucester, Logan, William, Benjamin, Garrett and Declan Riley of Maine, Colton and Colby Riley of Gloucester; 2 sisters, Patricia Thibodeau and her husband Mike of Gloucester, Donna Mateus and her husband Herbie of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Donald Riley and his wife Joanne of Gloucester; aunts, Patricia Riley and Mary Alice Wilson; uncle, William "Bill" Riley; sister-in-law, Sally Brown and her husband Ivan; brother-in-law, Michael Drohan and his wife Frann; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant grandson, Gabriel Riley; his sister, Roberta Seppala, and in-laws, Lillian and Philip Drohan. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Tuesday, November 24, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. His service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be in his name to the Gloucester Football Athletic Association, P.O. Box 3010, Gloucester, MA 01930.
