Jay Cecil Davis Obituary

Jay Cecil Davis passed away in his home surrounded by family on November 19, 2020 after a long and brave struggle with chronic illness. He was the eighth child of Rene and Charles Davis; born on February 21, 1938 in Brushy Knob near Ava, Missouri. At the age of 19, Jay joined the United States Air Force and became a mechanic working on C130 cargo transport planes. After his military service, he was honorably discharged and moved back to Missouri. He worked as a mechanic at a Chrysler dealership in St. Louis. At age 23, Jay moved to Parma, Idaho and lived with his sister. He was able to continue his career as a mechanic, eventually starting his own business Jay’s Automotive in Garden City, ID. He met his soul mate and love of his life, Roberta Ann (Bobbie) and married in 1976. In 1981 Jay & Bobbie were blessed with their daughter Amanda Renea “Mandi” . She is their only child & currently resides in Leavenworth WA with her husband, Brian Conley. Jay was truly the “Jay of all trades”. He eventually closed Jay’s Automotive to perform his civic duty as Mayor of Garden City for two terms. He was often referred to as “the good guy” because of his kindness and generosity toward others. Whether his renters or strangers, Jay had a heart for giving and helping those in need. After his 8 years as Mayor, Jay was a Fire Commissioner for the Ada County Fire District. In 2000, Jay, Bobbie and Mandi moved to their farm south of Boise to raise alfalfa and cows. Bobbie and Jay, sometimes with Mandi too, enjoyed traveling. They visited his brother Pat and family in Missouri. They took several cruises including from California to Mexico and Seattle to Alaska. And they spent a lively week in Honolulu Hawaii enjoying the tropical air of paradise and paying respects at the Pearl Harbor monuments. They enjoyed getting together with sister-in-law Carolyn Heath and her significant other Gary Henry in Nevada each year. Jay is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his daughter, Mandi and son-in-law, Brian; his sister-in-law, Mary Shelley and her significant other Patrick Reeves (King City, OR); sister-in-law Carolyn Heath and her significant other Gary Henry (Sparks, NV); nephew Benjamin Shelley and his significant other Sara Parker (Maui, HI); nephew Norman Davis and his wife Sam (Kuna, ID); and nephew Donnie Davis (Missouri).
