Josephine "Jo" R. Mahoney

<p>Josephine R. &ldquo;Jo&rdquo; Mahoney, 98, residing at Valley View Healthcare Center, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 22, 2020. Jo as she was known to family and friends was born on February 4, 1922 in Calabria, Italy to Dominic A. and Mary Cataldo. She married Harold L. Mahoney and he passed away in 1982.</p> <p>Surviving is her son Danny Mahoney of Elkhart.</p> <p>She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold and four sisters, Asilia &ldquo;Acey&rdquo; Hoagland, Lenora Hess, Verla B. &ldquo;Dotty&rdquo; Arelt, Hallie Louise Mowery and an infant brother and sister Carol and Gloria Cataldo.</p> <p>Josephine retired in 1984 after 14 years as an administrator for the Elkhart Housing Authority. She formerly worked as a clerk for the Elkhart License Branch and had been a telephone operator for the New York Central Railroad. She was a longtime member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church and the Rosary society and also served Eucharist minister. Jo also volunteered for the Council on Ageing and the Cancer Resources of Elkhart County.</p> <p>In honoring her wishes, cremation was chosen, with burial next to her husband at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements and care for Josephine are with Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart, Indiana.</p>
