Mary "Pat" Patricia Camella Sandusky, Ohio Obituary

Mary "Pat" Patricia Camella

Mary "Pat" Patricia (Ryan) Camella, 91, residing in Sandusky, died Friday morning, November 20, 2020 surrounded by her family at The Commons of Providence from natural causes. Pat was born on March 27, 1929 in Sandusky, OH to the late Kerwick J. and Eleanor (Conley) Ryan. Pat was a lifelong resident, graduated from Sandusky High School in 1948 and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. In her early years, she put her creative flair to use as a showcase window designer at JCPenny in Downtown Sandusky and she also enjoyed working at Corso’s Flower Shop and Erie Bay Graphics. She enjoyed volunteering with booster clubs, church groups, the board of elections and more. Pat was an avid antique collector, loved playing the piano, attending theater events and entertaining her family reciting childhood poems and limericks. Pat enjoyed and celebrated every holiday, but especially St. Patrick’s Day because she was very proud of her Irish heritage. She also had a fondness for Christmas and was known to have multiple trees on display at home all year-round. Pat was very crafty, creating so many signs and logos for schools, organizations and friends over the years; she was a talented painter, especially known for her oil paintings of Presidents Kennedy and Lincoln. And, her personalized birthday cards with unique imagery and loving messages were what everyone looked forward to on their special day. Pat is survived by her six children, Joellen (Rick) Ballard of Huron, John (Darla) Camella of Norwalk, Gary (Diana) Camella of Gahanna, Stephen (Paula) Camella of Sandusky, Michael (Ann) Camella of Huron and Bryan (Susan) Camella of McKinney, TX; 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Cassie, Garet, Perri, Lindsay, Lena, Dominic, Anthony, Gabriel, Kristen, Katie, Austin, Natalie and Courtney; 5 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Sydney, Ella, Emilia and Jude; sister, E. "Kathy" Roth of Sandusky; brother, Michael O. (Judy) Ryan of Huron and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her parents, Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Camella on October 6, 2017 and brothers, Joseph R. "Dick" Ryan and Terrance "Terry" Ryan and two daughter-in-law Debra (Pollack) Camella and Karyn (Blodgett) Camella. A private family prayer service will be held at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 10 AM in Holy Angel’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Zach Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Friends are invited to watch services via Facebook Live by visiting the Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Facebook page. Pat and I just happened to end up roommates when Bryan and our Beth were born in December 1966. I can still see her sweet smile and we hit it off immediately. We had so much fun ordering everything on the menu and then sharing it all. We had a wonderful "vacation" (... Continue Reading

Mary Ann, Mom always spoke so highly of you and shared similar stories about your "VIP treatment" and long stay at the hospital. And, she always reminded me that the 6th was Beth's birthday. She'll be missed but she's at peace and we have so many memories to cherish. T... Continue Reading

We lost another pillar of the Camella family. Aunt Pat, along with Uncle Joe, Uncle Frank and Aunt Toni, fostered a strong family environment which few people get to experience. We should be ever grateful to Aunt Pat, and the others, for what we have as a family. We cann... Continue Reading
