Obituary

Charles "Artie" Chilton, of the Sumner Community, was born to Nancy Lois (Davis) and Charles Greyson Chilton on February 28, 1953.  He attended Southern Guilford High School and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham Va.  He completed his education at GTCC with an Associate in Applied Science and Electronics Engineering Technology.  He passed into the arms of Jesus on November 20th at Hospice of Randolph where he completed his 8 year battle with cancer.

Artie had a colorful career of working at John H. Harland as a printer, Davidson Electronics as a salesman, Circuit City as a service manager, supervisor of the Water Systems of High Point, and salesman of Hunter Auto front end alignment Equipment.  He retired to his farm in Archdale NC working with what he most loved:  his horses, his dogs, an old cat, chickens and his cattle.  He built barns and buildings to hold the many things he collected like old cars, old tractors, new tractors with bailing equipment, and old tools of all kinds.  Artie loved a challenge and his greatest accomplishments were not only conquering and learning how to restore and use those things, but obtaining his IFR Pilot's license.  He flew out of Causey Aviation in Burlington as well as Pigeon Forge, TN and these were some of his happiest days.

Artie attended many Quaker Friends Meetings, but was a youth group leader for many years at Concord Friends.  He taught Sunday School, and served on Ministry and Council in several meetings.  He was a member of Concord Friends for most of his life.

Charles Arthur Chilton is preceded in death by his parents and several generations of Quakers at Concord Friends, whom he will be laid to rest beside.  He leaves behind his wife, Valli (Smith) of 40 years, his sister Vicky East (John), his brother Richard Chilton (Leigh), his nephews Jesse East (Ashley), Daniel East (Brittiany), and Benjamin East (Jayme) and one niece Whitney Brown (William).  He leaves behind as well great nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Funeral Services will be held at Concord Friends Meeting where his body will be laid to rest on November 22, 2020.  In lieu of flowers, feel free to make donations to the Concord Friends Pastor's Fund to be started in his memory.
