Vesta Lee Walls James, 91, of Pocahontas departed this life, Friday, November 20, 2020 at Pocahontas Healthcare and Rehab Center. She was born June 25, 1929 in Pocahontas, the only child of Lewis and Ora Earley Haynes. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1946. She spent most of her life in Pocahontas as a housewife. She worked for BRAD as supervisor over the Senior Citizen’s Meals Program and was a salesclerk at Bowling Furniture. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. Vesta Lee is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ora Haynes; her husband, David James; her first husband, Benny Walls; grandson, Matt Walls; and stepson, Tim James. Vesta Lee is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Brenda Walls of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Angel and Brent Reynolds of Trophy Club, Texas, Megan Walls of Pocahontas, Brooke and Casey Rickey of Hot Springs; eight great-grandchildren, Tate, Avery, Lexie, Halle Jo, Ben, Beckett, Harper, and Rylie; two step-sons, David James Jr. and Steve James of Florida; five step-grandchildren, Michelle, Patrick, Zack, Aaron, and Myra; and three step-great-grandchildren. Vesta Lee enjoyed gospel and country music. She and her first husband Benny Walls and their son Danny could be seen on Saturday nights at the local Hayride or Jamboree as well as other out of town shows. After Benny’s death in 1994, Vesta Lee married her high school sweetheart David James in 1995. They continued to go to musical events and did some traveling. She and David were married 24 years when David passed away in December 2019. A graveside service will be Monday, November 23, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Masonic Cemetery with Bro. Nelson Henderson officiating under direction of McNabb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice. To follow the directives of Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, masks covering the mouth and nose are required for all persons in Arkansas for all indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to non-household members where social distancing cannot be assured. Those attending will also be asked to sign a contact registry and maintain a social distance.
