Raymond J. O'Loughlin

Coventry – Raymond J. O’Loughlin, 85, died Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was for 61 years the beloved husband of the late Jean R. (Kimball) O'Loughlin. He was the devoted father of Deborah J. Miller-Yost (husband Robert) of Coventry, Michael R. O'Loughlin of West Greenwich and of the late Kevin J. O'Loughlin, whose wife Karen D. (Gallucci) O'Loughlin lives in Coventry. Grandfather of Christopher S. Miller, Michael F. Manna, Kevin J. O'Loughlin Jr., Ashley M. O'Loughlin, and Edward M. O'Loughlin. He was the brother of the late John O’Loughlin. Born in Providence, RI to Joseph B. and Isabelle (Smith) O’Loughlin, he was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Bryant College. For over 30 years, Ray worked as a Senior Insurance Examiner for the State of Rhode Island. He was the former owner of the Country Ice Cream Shoppe in Coventry. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to their annual family vacation on Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire. He had a love of boating, which he passed down to his son, Michael. Ray was a family man, first and foremost, but also as a kind, generous friend, who would give you the shirt off his back. No one was a stranger; Ray could spark a conversation with anyone he met! Many people will remember him as the first person who offered them a job at his restaurant and gave them an opportunity to excel. Ray was a past president of the New England Restaurant Association, a former Treasurer for the Coventry Republican Town Committee, and a member of the former Coventry Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Wood Estates Resident’s Association. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick.
