Miriam Kramer was born at Beth Israel Hospital in the borough of Manhattan, NYC, on April 5, 1941 to Sol Kramer and Mollie King Kramer. Born Malka Konig in Hungary, Miriam’s mother changed her name to Mollie King when she was a naturalized citizen in 1940. Miriam was their only child and was raised in an Orthodox Jewish home in the Bronx. After completing a bachelor’s degree, she worked in Manhattan as a paralegal and continued the same work when she moved to Santa Fe in the early 80’s. Miriam was married and divorced in NYC. She retired from working for the State of NM in 2010. She loved art, music, singing and walking the trails at Bandelier National Monument. She was an artist and used these skills to help others. While living in Woodstock, NY, Miriam was honored to have her artwork shown. She also worked with people who were terminally ill in New York and Santa Fe. Beginning in 1975, Miriam was a student of Ram Dass and lived for a time in the Richmond Hill area in Queens with other devotees of Hanuman and Neem Karoli Baba. Ram Dass gave Miriam the name Lakshmi Ma in the late 70’s and she is known by this name among many of her spiritual family who mourn her passing. Miriam is not survived by any known relatives, yet she leaves behind many friends who enjoyed her laughter, humor, and stories. For a short time, Miriam lived at Taos Retirement Village until critical health issues required skilled nursing care at Taos Living Center. The TLC staff provided her loving care in her last days.
