Harold Galster
<p>Harold Galster, 95, of Stanton, died peacefully on November 18, 2020, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held Tuesday, November 24 at 10:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church north of Hazen with Rev. Sheiber officiating. Burial will be at Our Savior’s Cemetery, northwest of Stanton. Visitation will be at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST</p> <p>Harold was born on December 26, 1924 to Joseph Galster and Lukatia (Machau) Galster, the third of nine children, on the home place north of Hazen. He received his education north of Hazen, completing the eighth grade and beginning correspondence courses for ninth grade.</p> <p>Harold was drafted into the army during WW ll and served in Germany. He enjoyed telling stories of his experiences. Upon honorable discharge from the army in 1946, he returned to ND and began farming near Stanton and continued working on the farm into his eighties.</p> <p>On February 10, 1952, he married Martha (Weil) and they farmed together, making a well balanced team. They had been married 59 years when Martha passed away in 2011.</p> <p>Harold had a strong faith which was evident in his life. He loved to read, study, and discuss God`s word. He taught Sunday school and confirmation. He was a member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church for many years and later transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, north of Hazen. Harold was involved in the development of Dakota Boys Ranch and continued to support them over the years.</p> <p>Harold loved to read. He learned many skills by reading and “just doing” them. Some of those skills were carpentry, plumbing, mechanic work, electrical work and welding.</p> <p>Upon reaching the age of 90, he was asked what the most important things in his life were. He replied, “God and good work ethic".</p> <p>Harold is survived by his children, Judy Wickum and Dwight (Vera) Galster; sisters, Florina and Joan Galster; brother, Alfred (Maria) Galster; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.</p> <p>He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Irwin, Walter and Fredrich; and sisters, Irene Guenthner and Adina Ballensky.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Dakota Boys Ranch or Sakakawea Hospice.</p> <p>Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.</p>Obituary
