Peggy A. Jantzen

Peggy A. Jantzen, age 68 of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Grinnell Healthcare Center. Due to Covid-19 health concerns, no public service will be held. Interment was held at Sheridan Cemetery northeast of Grinnell. Memorials may be designated to PALS (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) or to the Sheridan United Methodist Church, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Condolences may be offered to Peggy’s family online at www.smithfh.com. Peggy Ann Jantzen was born the daughter of Clifford and Ellen (Irwin) Jantzen on July 1, 1952 in Grinnell. She was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. She graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1970. She received a BA degree in accounting from Upper Iowa University in 1992. In 1970, Peggy began her longtime career of over 40 years as a centralized toll investigator with General Telephone (GTE) and later, Verizon in Grinnell. She lived in Grinnell all of her life and was an active member of the Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary and the Sheridan United Methodist Church. Peggy loved watching Iowa State Cyclones football and basketball games and bowling with her friends. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, for being a great friend, and for the strong love of her family. Peggy is survived by her mother, Ellen Jantzen of Grinnell; sister, Pauline Sharp of Grinnell; brother, Kenneth Jantzen of Grinnell; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Jantzen; her brother, James Jantzen; and a nephew, John Jantzen.
