William A. Massey, Jr.

William A. Massey, Jr., 90, of Meadville, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 15, 2020. William was born in Kiskimere, on May 19, 1930, a son of the late William A. and Ethel (Edge) Massey, Sr. On November 25, 1948 William married Mary Russ; she survives. After many years of service William retired from the Maintenance Department of the former PPG Industry. He began his career in Crayton and transferred to the Meadville area. He was a long time member of the NAACP, where he served as past president. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling. Church was a big part of William's life. He grew up in the Morning Star Baptist Church in Kiskimere, where he went from being a student to a teacher as well as Deacon and Trustee. He was also a former member of United Faith Fellowship Church, Meadville. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. William found peace in knowing he was Going Home. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 71 years, William is survived by two children Rose Marie Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA, Andrew Massey of Meadville; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister Jane Booker and her husband Lee of Cleveland, OH; a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by two children Shirley Massey, Wesley Massey, Sr. and a sister Annette Clair. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, November 23, 2020, from 2-4 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Going Home Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, with Rev. Markus McDaniel of United Faith Fellowship Church and Rev. Carter of Morning Star Baptist co-officiating. For those not able to attend, the service will be live streamed via our Facebook page. (Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.) During services, CDC guidelines will be followed. William will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Massey family would like to thank everyone for the love and concern that was shown to them during William's illness.
