Alan D. Brooks

Alan Dale Brooks, 71 years of age, passed Saturday, November 14, 2020, unexpectedly at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida in the arms of his loving wife Barbara and his fur babies.  Dale was born March 19, 1949, in Granite City, Illinois to the late Jack and Florence (Arnold) Brooks. He was raised in New Memphis, Illinois, and was the third oldest of seven children, three preceded him in death. Dale was a doting husband, proud father and grandfather, and mischievous brother.  He was a Vietnam Veteran having served from 1968-1969 with the United States Marine Corps.  Three children were born from a previous union.  In 1981 Dale married Barbara Ellison in Valparaiso, Indiana and she survives his passing.  Dale is survived by his best friend and devoted wife Barb, his daughter Angela Brooks Rybacki of Carlyle, Illinois, his sons Alan Dale Jr. (Jackie) Brooks of Nashville, Illinois, and Jason Brooks of Omaha, Nebraska, 3 grandchildren Mason Brooks, Sydney, and Blake Brooks, sister Peg (Jimmy) Jones of Granite City, Illinois, brother Bruce (Beverly) of Simi Valley, California, sister Shelley (Gary) Stephens of Clear Lake, Iowa, 15 nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and countless friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack Brooks Jr., Greg Brooks, and Randy Brooks, his nephew Jack Brooks III, and niece Ruby Garlick.  Dale was an active Veterans Advocate and Guardian while living in Omaha, Nebraska, and Port Charlotte, Florida.  He was a strong Influence on anyone who would listen to his life stories and sage advice.  Dale’s love of motorcycles and cars, both new and old, kept him endlessly searching for the next perfect one.  Dale spent the last 5 years enjoying the back yard paradise he created at home with his wife.  Forever fearless and playful, in life and death, he will be cherished by all.  Per Dale’s request, cremation will be performed.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date to enable his family and friends to gather in his honor.  Memorials may be made to the AMVETS National Service Foundation and will be accepted by the Johnson-Taylor Funeral & Cremation.
