Manuel T. deMelo

<p>Manuel T. deMelo, age 95 of Taunton and formerly of Fall River, passed away on November 18, 2020 with his loving family by his side.</p> <p>He was the beloved husband of Maria S. (Santos) deMelo.</p> <p>Manuel was born in Santo Amaro, Pico Island, Azores, the son of the late Jose and Virginia (Soares) deMelo</p> <p>Manuel made a living as a captain on several fishing vessels and was a lumberjack during the winter seasons providing wood for the well known village of Santo Amaro boat building industry.</p> <p>The family immigrated to the US in 1968. Before his retirement at the age of 63, Mr. deMelo was employed with Pearson Yachts as a finish carpenter.</p> <p>He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and watching sports, especially his favorite soccer team Benfica.</p> <p>Besides his beloved wife Maria with whom they just celebrated their 65th anniversary on November 17th . he is survived by his loving daughter Mary M. Santos and her husband Victor of Taunton, and his son in law Gil Martins of Somerset. He was the loving father of his late daughter Mary F. Martins. He was also the grandfather of Philip Santos of Raynham, Valarie Ryan of Dighton, great-grandfather of Julia, Lucas and Shea Santos, Benjamin and Patrick Ryan. He&nbsp; was brother of the late Jose, Antonio, Carlos, Alberto deMelo, Virginia Silva, Maria Teixeira and the late Jacinta deMelo.</p> <p>A private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 23, 2020 in Good Shepherd Church, Fall River. Interment was held in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to; The Inker Family Fund at Tufts Medical Center, 800 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111 or Saint Jude Children&rsquo;s &nbsp;Research Hospital (st.jude.org)&nbsp; in Manuel&rsquo;s memory, would be deeply appreciated.</p> <p>Arrangements were with the Silva Funeral Home of Taunton.</p> <p>For expressions of sympathy, to sign an online guestbook or to light a memorial candle, visit www.silvafuneralhome.com</p>
