Scott Alan Fraser Obituary

Scott Alan Fraser, 44, of Belgrade, MT passed away on November 18, 2020 in his home, surrounded by loved ones, following a battle with esophageal cancer. He was born to Jerry and Emma (Gilbert) Fraser on January 28, 1976. Scott grew up in Roundup, MT. As a young man, Scott greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved being involved in team sports as well as social activities. He played golf, football, basketball, and saxophone. In high school, Scott was very involved in scholastics. He participated in the Roundup High School student council, the honor roll society, and served as student body president. In 1994 Scott moved to Bozeman to attend Montana State University (MSU) and pursue his dream of becoming an electrical engineer. Scott met the love of his life, Tara Moeller, in 1997. They attended MSU together and spent lots of quality time in the library pursuing both their love and their professional goals. Together, Tara and Scott also enjoyed sports and other extracurricular activities. Tara was involved in MSU track and field and Scott was her biggest fan. Tara appreciated that Scott always supported her wholeheartedly, was a great listener, and always treated her with love and respect. Scott and Tara were married in Bozeman on September 9, 2000. Over the next 20 years, Scott and Tara made many amazing memories and built a beautiful life together. Scott will always be remembered for his animated story telling, his quick wit and his kind heart. All who knew him would say that he could remember anything and everything (useful or otherwise), and he would not hesitate to offer his curated information to brighten the mood. After Scott graduated from MSU, in 2000, he applied his engineering talent and passion to his professional life. He started his career at ILX Lightwave, followed by supervisory roles at Quantum Composers and FLIR. Throughout his career, it was apparent that Scott cherished the friends, connections, and experiences that came along the way. When taking a break from engineering, Scott was most passionate about hunting and fishing. He even took up tying his own fishing flies. Scott and his friends enjoyed thorough testing of his home-tied patterns for effectiveness on all the local rivers. This led Scott to combine his engineering expertise with his love of fly-fishing to co-found Big Sky Rod Box with his best friend Javan. Scott was also active in the hunting community and volunteered his time to the Wild Turkey Foundation. Scott is survived by his wife Tara of Belgrade, MT. His parents, Emma and Jerry Fraser reside in Roundup, MT. His brother, Cory Fraser, and wife, Monique, reside in Erie, CO with their daughters Kambry and Hailey. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to help with final expenses at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service (www.dahlcares.com). A Celebration of his life will be held in the summer of 2021.
