Calixta Esparra Obituary

Calixta Esparra left her family on November 15, 2020. Our family is comforted knowing her husband, Mercedes Torres, greeted her with his guitar and guided her on her journey to heaven. She lived a full and happy life always surrounded by her loving family. She was the heartbeat of the family and her community. Everywhere she went, whether it was to her grandchildren’s baseball games, family gatherings or softball games at the local field, everyone greeted her and called her Grandma. She always had a smile, a hug and a kiss ready. She was loved by all. Everyone felt she was their very own grandma. She had a warm and loving personality and it shone bright. She loved the New York Yankees. She enjoyed going camping with her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to be with her family. We have so many wonderful, loving memories to hold tight to. There will be a void in our hearts.

She will be sadly missed by her children Yolanda Cordero, Milton Torres, Yvonne Vasquez, Wanda Torres and Shepard Torres. Also, Junior Romero, whom she raised as her own. She also raised her grandchildren as her own; Celito Colon, Willy Colon and Nolo Colon.  Her family will miss her deeply. She leaves her siblings, Felicita Esparra, Rafael Esparra, Hector Esparra, Felito Esparra and Orlando Esparra.  Calixta also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Her parents’ names were Felix Esparra and Marciala Cartagena. Her birth mother was Generosa Rodriquez.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial for Calixta on Saturday, November 21st at 10 am at Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery West, Rock Valley Road. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 20th from 4 to 7 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Please note that masks and social distancing are required.
