Wayne Fitch, age 75, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 with his family by his side. He is remembered for his witty sense of humor, his jokes, and how he could make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Wayne was born January 20, 1945 in Olympia, Washington to parents Earl and Fairy (Ensign) Fitch. He graduated from Mount Tahoma high school in Tacoma, Washington then went on to earn a certificate for diesel and heavy equipment mechanics from L.H. Bates Vocational Technical Institute, a two-year program. Wayne married Pennie Ann Vogl on June 6, 1964 in Tacoma. Together they had four children and 56 wonderful years of marriage. Wayne joined the Coast Guard in 1964. He earn several medals and honors including a Marksman Pistol Ribbon, an Expert Rifle Medal, a Fourth Good Conduct Award, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Coast Guard Unit Commendation. After 22 years of service with the Coast Guard he retired. Wayne began his second career when he joined Scholten’s Equipment as a tractor mechanic, then retiring after 25 years. Wayne love to hunt, camp, fish, crab, and go razor clamming at the ocean. He enjoyed years of boating in the San Juan Islands and later in life gardening, and watching and feeding all the hummingbirds in his yard. Material things were never important to him but he love to eat. Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 83, Deming, Washington. Wayne is survived by his wife Pennie, his children Ronda (Tony) Smith, Teresa (Charles) Pilchard, Tammy (Ron) Hanson, and Wayne (Jona) Fitch; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Wayne will be remembered with a private family graveside service in Lynden Cemetery. Guests are asked to please wear masks and social distance.
