Virginia Mickey, 98, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Creston died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. High Priest Raymond Powell will officiate. The Service will be Live Streamed on the Powers Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation, with the family receiving friends will be one hour prior to the service on Monday 10-11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Masks are required at both the service and visitation. The service is NOT limited to 30, but only limited by our building space with social distancing observed. The visitation is limited to 15 people social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the American Cancer Society or Muscular Dystrophy Association. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com. Virginia Ethel Mickey, daughter of Clarence Leland and Susie Pearl (Bohall) Anderson was born January 23, 1922, in Loveland, Ia. Virginia was educated in Modale Community Schools. On May 21, 1939, Virginia eloped with Robert Harlan Mickey being married in Woodbine, Ia. They settled in Akin, Minn., later moving to Austin, Minn., Coos Bay, Org. and Missouri Valley, Ia. While Harlan concluded his service in the Navy to our country, Virginia worked as an active homemaker and mother. Virginia and Harlan moved to Atlantic where she began working as a salesclerk for J.C. Penny’s. In 1954 they moved to Creston where Virginia continued to work for J. C. Penny’s and later for Strauss Clothing, Palm Clothing and Van Gelder Clothing. Virginia moved to Missouri in 2015, living independently near Janette and Les. Recently,,she lived with Carla Mickey Sell in Independence, Mo. Virginia was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Creston and a former member of Crestmoor Golf Club, Elk’s Lodge and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, all of Creston. Virginia volunteered with the Blood Bank, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy, Easter Seals and Camp Sunnyside. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Joyleen (Marvin) Foss of West Des Moines and Janette (Gary) McMullen of Independence, Mo., son Les Mickey of Holden, Mo., brother-in-law Leonard Rodenburg of Missouri Valley, Ia.; her sister-in-law Donna Mae Rohwer of Dodge Center, Minn.; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harlan in 1997, son Larry in 1973 and three sisters, Doris Grossner, Mary Divelbess and Julia Rodenburg.
