Kathy Fortner Obituary

Katheryn Grace Fortner May 3, 1951-November 12, 2020 Katheryn Grace Fortner, 69, the daughter of the late Don and Helen Fortner of Stollings, WV, passed away November 12, 2020, after a difficult and valiant struggle with cancer at Trinity Health Care of Logan, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Tom and Harry Fortner. She survived by her brother Richard “Dick” Fortner of Oak Island, NC. She leaves behind her beloved cousin (more like her sister) Rebecca Fortner Workman of Henlawson, WV, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces, notably Miss Ella Jane Fortner, age 3, the daughter of her nephew John David Fortner of Gainesville, FL. A retired nurse who worked 40 years at Logan Regional Health Center, Kathy spent her final years of employment working in the labor and delivery unit of the Logan Regional Medical Center where she cared for newborn babies. She had a deep and abiding love for all children and was proud to call them “her babies” of which there were many. She also leaves behind many friends and former colleagues, including very special friend, Bruce Finley of Ethel, WV. She was a member of the Stollings Christian Church. Loved by many she will be missed until we meet again. It was her wish to be cremated and have her remains interred by her parents at Highland Memory Gardens of Chapmanville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be given to Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org) or to the charity of one’s choice.
