Loretta Marie Hayes Obituary

Passed away on November 17th, 2020 at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion, Loretta Hayes of Tilton, age 79 years.Welcomed into Heaven with loving arms, her husband and soulmate, Bill, her mother and father (Ellen Mary and Lawrence Peddle), brothers Cecil, Raymond, and Jerome, sister Regina, sister in law Jean Marie, mother and father in law Tom and Mary Hayes. Left to mourn with loving and fond memories, daughters Regina (Paul) and Sherrylynn, grandchildren Brianna, Riley and Siobhan, brothers Fr. John, Andrew, Clarence, Terry(Lorraine), Kevin(Susan), Frank(Terry), Wally(Ruth), and sisters Von(Don) and Betty Ann(Tony), sisters in law Linda, Eileen and Lorraine Koehler (Grant), Aunts Susie and Mary, numerous nieces and nephews, special cousin Helen Saunders, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Loretta spent nearly 30 years of her life teaching children, a profession she took so much pride in. She handled all undertakings with dignity and reserve. But her greatest joy in life was being a mother to Sherrylynn and Regina. Her days were always filled lovingly with dedication and pride - from swimming lessons, to skating lessons, to homework, to piano - she was never too busy for her girls. They always came first. Then her role shifted and she became a grandmother - a joy that was like no other. “Nanny” was something else! Someone who will never be replaced nor forgotten. She showed Riley and Siobhan and Brianna a love that was immeasurable. In her retirement years, Loretta’s days were filled with a good Mary Higgins Clarke book, a walk with her dear friend Pauline or her sister in law Linda, or enjoying her daily Iced Capp while watching reruns of Murder She Wrote, Young and the Restless, or Golden Girls. Anyone who entered her home could often find her humming along to her favourite hymns. Loretta’s love for her family filled her days. Having come from a large family, she dearly enjoyed getting together at “the house” for family gatherings. The closeness shared by her brothers and sisters is something to be cherished and envied. Her last year was spent in The Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillon long term care facility. Not surprisingly, Loretta touched everyone she came in contact with here. Even in her last hours, her room was visited by staff and residents who found comfort in being able to share their stories of Loretta and affectionately giving her one last kiss. Thank you to the staff who loved and cared for her like she was one of your own. Thank you to Dr. Stryde for his compassion and care. A special thank you to her homecare worker and friend, Genevieve Kieley, for your kindness and love and warmth. As difficult as it is to say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend, there is much comfort in knowing she is whole again. She is in the loving arms of dad, where they will spend eternity together. Until we meet again. Forever loved and always missed. Resting at Lynch's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay. Visitation Wednesday November 18th, 2020 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00. Due to the public health restrictions the funeral service is by invitation only. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to the NL Alzheimers society.
