The honorable past Potentate Mr. Roosevelt Fox, Jr. born on 9/19/1942 to Alice Hickman Fox and Roosevelt Fox, Sr. died November 16, 2020. He was an intricate member of the Darlington county community and served in multiple civic organizations. He was well known as Man Fox, Cowboy Fox, or the man that beat everybody at checkers. He was a member of Myrtle Lodge #64 of Hartsville, he was a 32nd degree Mason of the Ashland Consistory, a member of Myrtle Chapter #56 OES PHA, Past High Priest of LE Hyman Holy Royal Arch #42, Hiram Council Royal and Select Mason #7, Past Eminent Commander of Alpha Mega #7, Honorary Past Grand Eminent Commander of SC, and Past Potentate of CreScent Temple #148. He was also a long-life member of St. John United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities and of which his ancestor Rosanna was a founder. He was educated in Darlington County Public Schools attending Mayo High School and a graduate of Florence Darlington Technical College. In the ’70s Roosevelt served as president of the Pate Elementary School PTA, was a member of the Darlington County Public Schools Booster Club. He served as a volunteer sheriff deputy in the ’80s and the ’90s his most beloved service began because he became a grandfather. He was a devoted grandfather, present at the birth of his first and middle granddaughters. In the 2000’s he altered his life so that he could pick the girls up from school in the afternoons. In 2010, he welcomed his youngest granddaughter for whom he made Columbia a weekly destination. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Roosevelt Fox, Sr.; his sister, Mary Fox; and his brother, Marvin Fox. Left to cherish the memory, Rutha Mae Fox his wife of 18 years, and co-parent of 52 years; two daughters, Michelle Fox of Timmonsville, SC and Terri Fox of Columbia, SC; three granddaughters, Tori Fulmore of Columbia, SC, Mia Addison of Timmonsville, SC, and Brooklynn Fulmore of Columbia, SC; one grandson, Patrick Green of Darlington, SC; one sister, Bertha Mae Murphy of Hartsville, SC; two brothers, Odell Fox, Sr. of Darlington, SC and Bishop Ronald (Shirley) Fox of Elgin, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as, his bonus family the Greens. In the 60’s Roosevelt found employment with the Lowe’s Organization and it took on many forms, the most prized by his was a friend and family members. He retired from Lowe’s in 2019 as sales manager. He considered Paulette, Lawrence and Cindy, Randy and Lori, and their children as a family. Special recognition to the family from his second marriage Wonda Faye Fox who also proceeded him in death, Alaina Palacios (Isabella), and Juana Palacios, and his special grandson, Patrick Green of Darlington, SC.
