Mildred Walker Obituary

Mildred Walker was born on November 13, 1949 in Crewe, Virginia to the late William and Mary Street. She departed this life on November 15, 2020.

Mildred Walker attended elementary and middle schools in Alexandria, VA, Charles Houston and Parker Gray. She moved to New York at the age of 18, where she received her G.E.D.

She was a homemaker for many years until she started working for Manufacturers Hanover Bank.

She became an active member at Greater Hood Memorial where she was affiliated with several organizations.

After leaving Manufacturers Hanover Bank, she became a stock broker at JP Morgan, while earning a Bachelor of Arts at New York University. She retired in 2001, left New York, and returned to Alexandria, VA.

Mildred came out of retirement in 2003, where she worked for Carlyn and Company Interior Designer located in Great Falls, Virginia. In 2008, she retired once again due to an illness.

She was a kindhearted, loving person who would give you her last.

Mildred love to travel. Cruises were her favorite next to Disney World, which her last trip there was in 2018. She wanted to return there in September of this year, but due to Covid she would not chance it.

Although Mildred’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain.

Her favorite saying would be, “1 + 1 makes 2, something in the buttermilk’s not right”.

It would be wrong to say Mildred lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined when anyone else would have broken. Mildred stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Jesueag Walker; her mother Mary Street and father William Street, her brothers; Ralph Street, Albert Fowlkes; her sister, Angela Callahan. She was also preceded in death by her sister in law Karen Robinson
