Obituary

Dr. Michael Veseth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, in- law, and all around nice guy, lost his battle with cancer on Nov. 11, 2020.   Mike was born on September 10, 1948, to Dr. Myron E. and Martawn (Simms) Veseth.   He was raised in Havre, MT graduating from Havre High School in 1966. He also spent summers working on the Veseth Ranch south of Malta.

Following high school he attended Concordia College earning a BA in pre law Political Science.  In 1974 while working in Washington, DC, he met and married Rosemary Sylwester.  They returned to Bozeman where she taught school while he earned a BS in zoology and nearly completed a chemistry degree.

Mike is survived by his wife Rosemary and his children Paula Veseth (George McCargar), Lt.  Col. Kate Toms (Rusty), and special PC News correspondent David.  He was the proud Grandpa Mike to the world’s most adorable and perfect grandchildren: Hannah, Alex, Jonathan, and Micah.   He is also survived by his sisters Francie Hasbrouck (Jim) and Rosemary Cook (Greg) and many nieces and nephews.

Mike attended dental school at Washington University St Louis where he earned a Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD).  He has served the Malta community for nearly 33 years.  In 2013 he served as president of the MT Dental Association and was also inducted into the International College of Dentists.

Mike was a devoted Christian, proud Norwegian, busy Kiwanis member,  honorary Dirt Dauber, Gideon member, Men in Mission member, wine maker, skilled stroganoff chef, avid reader, harmonica player, great with trivia…  but not so great with names and faces.  Many folks don’t know that he earned a pilot’s license in his younger days and more recently became a certified scuba diver.  In his early 60’s he and daughter Kate summited Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.    Mike was famous for the French fries he and David fixed for the annual car show.  Kiwanis members were expected to happily help him scrub 125 # of potatoes as peelings must be left on for  a really good flavor.

A quiet man with a dry sense of humor, he served the community in many ways.  He and his staff offered free dental checkups to Head Start children and also promoted the tooth sealant program at the elementary school. He and his staff were also willing to provide to those on Medicaid.

Friends wanting to honor Mike are encouraged to do so by becoming active in the community.  Kindly consider volunteering your time and talents to a local church, civic organization, or other group.   Financial donations can also be sent to Malta Kiwanis PO Box 567 for the ELIMINATE vaccination project, Malta Lutheran Church radio fund, PC Historical Society, or the American Cancer Society.  May you rest in peace, Mike, as you will be greatly missed in our community.
