ANDOVER- Barbara E.A. McGovern "BEAM", 84, of Andover died peacefully at her residence on November 14, 2020. Barbara was born in Newton MA to the late Joseph and Katherine F. (Broderick) McGovern. She was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and John. Her childhood years were spent in Lawrence. She was a graduate of Lowell State Teachers College and enjoyed a long career as an educator at the Franklin Elementary School in North Andover. As a result of her dedication to students she was inducted into the 2018 Educator Hall of Fame. Barbara was a very active member of the community; coordinating and volunteering for several intergenerational programs her whole life. She enjoyed playing softball, skiing, bowling, billiards, worship, ringing bells, art, and Mickey Mouse. Post retirement, Barbara’s dreams came true when she opened “B.E.A.M.S Dreams” a local novelty store. She then expanded her outreach to the “Bike” program, Dictionary program, and recently organized several trips to War, WV with supplies for positive youth development. Barbara is survived by her niece, Debra Parsons of Salem NH and two nephews, Derek Carignan of Meridianville AL and Raymond Carignan of Deland FL as well several great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday November 20, 2020 at 11 AM at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.
