Doreen G. Hurley

Doreen Hurley, 84, a former resident of Bradford St. in Bennington and more recently of School St. died Wednesday November 11, 2020 at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown, MA following a brief illness. She was born in Burnley, Langshire, England October 3, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Edith (Halstead) Gorman. Doreen received her education in Alton, Hampshire, England and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School Class of 1957. She married John R. “Jack” Hurley in Elkton, Maryland on August 7, 1957. Mr. Hurley died October 26, 1999. In earlier years Mrs. Hurley was employed as a waitress at the Paradise Restaurant, Geanellis Restaurant and the Mount Anthony Country Club. She later worked at K&H Manufacturing and at the time of her retirement she was employed at Mount Anthony Union High School, as a cashier in the lunch program. Mrs. Hurley was a member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington. Her home and family were her main interest. She enjoyed flower gardening and helping at Saint Peters Episcopal Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa A. Eash of Bennington and Kathleen L. Gorman of North Bennington. Two sons, John R. Hurley II and Derek W. Hurley both of Bennington. Twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A brother, Derek Gorman of Hereford, England and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a step daughter, Jackie Lou Crawford and a brother Harry W. Gorman. A graveside service will be held at the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery on May 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Doreen Hurley may be made to either the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Dialysis Unit or the Williamstown Commons Nursing Home through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
