John Mark Armour

SMYRNA - John Mark Armour, 62 years old, a longtime resident of Smyrna Mills, Maine died Wednesday November 11, 2020 at home after a short illness. Born April 11, 1958 in Bath, New Brunswick, Canada to Philip and Catherine Grant Armour.  In 1959 he moved with family to Smyrna Mills, ME when he was young. He married Marada (Carr) Armour in Island Falls, Maine on June 22, 2014. His father Philip died in 2005, his mother Catherine died in 2018 and his uncle Clarence E. Grant in 2011.  He is survived by his wife Marada Armour of Oakfield, Maine, his children John W. Armour (Susan Lowe) of Cary, NC, Emily (Anthony) Foley of Shelby NC,  Annie Armour of Kealakekua, Hawaii,  his siblings Elizabeth (Lawrence) Taylor of Castro Valley, California, and Elwood (Alice) Armour of Street, Maryland,  two  grandchildren:, Max Foley, and Tessa Foley and numerous nieces and nephews. His children were of previous marriages to Deanna Leigh Peralta of West Virginia and to Mary Gail Doster of North Carolina (both still living). John or Mark, depending upon how you knew him because he answered to both names, was a member of the Houlton Rifle and Pistol Club and an avid gun enthusiast. He liked to hike and snowshoe in the woods, would get fiddleheads for his mother, and caught fish but would never eat them.  He spent long hours looking for (and camping next to) the numerous great waterfalls that are all over Maine. He was smart as a whip, was unafraid to wrestle with life's difficult questions, and loved his family. He will be missed. Friends may call from 10 – 11 A.M. and 6 – 7 P.M. Friday November 20, 2020, at Bowers Funeral Home at 10 Water St, Houlton. A graveside service will be announced in the summer of 2021. To share memories and to leave condolences, please visit bowersfuneral.com
