A funeral service celebrating the life of Ricky C. Wemmer, age 65, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, with Pastor Tom Pound officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors. Ricky passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. He was born November 23, 1954 in Newark, Ohio to Carel and Anna (Daugherty) Wemmer. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a load master. Ricky enjoyed fishing, hunting, football (Denver Broncos) and classic cars, especially old Ford cars and trucks. He also loved spending time with his family. His grandson, Kyle was his little buddy whom he adored. Ricky had a wonderful sense of humor, was a friend to everyone and would help anyone in need. He never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed visiting, neighboring, and talking to people. He was definitely his mother's “wild child”, he truly loved his mother, and she was his number one priority. Ricky was a member of the V.F.W. Post #4713 in Malta, Ohio and the American Legion Post #420 Murray City, Ohio. Before becoming disabled, Before becoming disabled Ricky worked in the lumber yards, drove truck, built houses and did roofing. He is survived by the love of his life, Tammey J. (Hunt) Wemmer, whom he married on September 1, 2006; his mother, Anna L. (Daugherty) Wemmer Chapman and Kenneth J. Chapman; two sons, Paul E. (Jennifer) McDaniel and Courtland S. Myers; a daughter, Leah G. (Kyle L. Rinehart) Myers, a brother, William (Goldie) Herbst; two grandsons, Jacob T. Wolfe and Kyle E. McDaniel; and a sister-in-law, Kim (Tim Grooms) Day. Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Carel F. Wemmer; a sister, Carol “Lynn” Burris; and his favorite dog, “Buford”. Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark. The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta & Stickle Funeral Home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark, is assisting the family with arrangements.
