Obituary for McKinley Curtis Sergeant Major (SGM) Retired McKinley Curtis 93, of Birmingham, Alabama, came to be with our Lord on November 11, 2020, (Veterans Day) at his home surrounded by his Wife (Suk H. Curtis) and Son Command Sergeant Major Retired McKinley Curtis III. SGM Retired McKinley Curtis, an only child born in Birmingham, Alabama, was raised by his Aunt (Clay) on June 4th, 1927. He received his education in Birmingham later, joining the United States Army in 1945 at a young age of 18 in the Transportation Corps. He then, through promotions, began working in the logistics arena as a Senior Supply Sergeant. He served his country from 1945-1975 with 30 years of Military Service. He served three combat tours in Vietnam, receiving the Bronze Star (1 OLC); Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC); Good Conduct Medal (7th Award); World War II Victory Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Germany); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal. He also worked as a Department of Defense Civilian at Fort Ord California until 1992 until the Post was deactivated and closed down. His hobbies included reading Western Books, Golfing, Bowling, Fishing, and listening to Jazz Music. SGM Retired McKinley Curtis is a member of the 100 Sergeant’s Major of Color. SGM Retired McKinley Curtis is survived by his Wife Suk H. Curtis, (9) children, Yvonne Perkins of El Mirage, Arizona, Patricia Gillard (Michael) of Omaha, Nebraska, McKinley Curtis III (Petrina) of Harvest, Alabama, Anthony Curtis of Hampton, Virginia, Bruce Curtis (Lucia) San Pablo, California, Angela Charity of Hampton, Virginia, Lisa Harris (Jeffrey) of Dacula, Georgia, James R. Curtis of Newport News, Virginia, and Toni Curtis, Suisun, California (25) Grandchildren, (18) great-Grandchildren, and (4) great-great-Grandchildren.
