Helena Marie Craddock White Obituary

Helena C. White of Oak Ridge passed away in her sleep and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 5, 2020. She was born Helena Marie Craddock in Logan County, WV on April 17, 1931, the daughter of Rev. Moss A. Craddock and Marie Adkins Craddock. Marie Craddock died in 1932 and Helena was raised by her loving father Moss and stepmother Thelma Craddock. In 1953 Helena married Robert L. (Bob) White, also of Logan, WV and they moved to Oak Ridge, TN in 1955 where Bob began working at the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant. . Helena was a graduate of Logan County HS, held a two year teaching certificate from Marshall University in WV, received a BS in Elementary Education from UT Knoxville in 1969 and a Masters in English from UT Knoxville in 1976. Helena taught elementary education in Oak Ridge at Linden and Woodland Schools from 1969 to 1989. She was honored as the State of TN teacher of the year in 1981. Helena was well known in Oak Ridge as a wife, mother, educator, neighbor, community volunteer and was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and more recently of Central Baptist Bearden Church in Knoxville. Helena was preceded in death by her parents Moss Craddock, Marie Craddock, Thelma Craddock and her brother Moss L. Craddock all of Logan, WV and her husband Bob White of Oak Ridge who died in 1996. She is survived by her brother David Craddock and sister Juanita Davis of WV, her sons Mark R. White (Lorie) Patrick L. White (Shelley) and Thomas F. White (Lee Ann) all of Knoxville. Helena was also blessed with six grandchildren Logan P. White, Kylie A. Little (Dr. Ian H. Little) of Orlando, FL, Mitchell R. White, Matthew White, Evan T. White and Adison C. White, all of Knoxville, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in WV, Washington, NC, TX, NY, FL and Japan. The family will hold a graveside service at Oak Ridge Memorial Park on November 21, 2020 at 2pm followed by a reception at the home of Patrick and Shelley White at 1817 Thoreau Lane Knoxville, TN.
