Ida Mae William-Johnson passed away on November 10, 2020. She was born on March 9, 1928 in Manhattan, Kansas and was adopted at birth by Walter and Ida Mae Bryant. Her birth name was changed to Ida Mae, after her adopted mother. She was raised as an only child. Her mother passed away when she was only10 years old. Her father raised her with the help of the women in the neighborhood. In her adult years she was finally able to meet her biological sister & brothers.She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Calvary Baptist Church.She later united with the Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership ofthe late Rev. Ruby L. Kirtdoll. She was a faithful 60 year member until her health startedto fail. In her younger years she worked with the kitchen committee and at the time ofher death she served on the Mother’s Board. In 1950 she moved on Quincy Street in Pierce Addition and lived there until UrbanRenewal relocated her 5 blocks south to Jefferson Street in Cunningham Heightswhere she remained until her passing. She attended East Topeka Junior High School and Topeka High School. She was married to Pat Williams and they had one son, Robert Earl Williams. She wasthen united with J.C. Booker and they bore one son, James C. Booker. Later she wasunited to Gentel Johnson. She worked 24 years at the Menninger Foundation as a kitchen helper before retiring.She also worked at KNI as a foster grandparent for 30 years after her retirement just tohave something to do. Ida was a giving person. She believed in taking care of business, paying her bills andputting a dollar back for a rainy day. She was also known for cooking the best glazed baked ham. When she loved, she loved hard. She would never let you forget the people she loved.Their memories forever stayed with her and she would always remind you how muchPat, J.C., Johnson and Poogie all meant to her. The fond joy of remembering Ida will always be - for her holding tight to her pocketbook,wearing her safety pins on her clothes with her keys around her neck, driving down themiddle of the street and parking 6 feet away from the curb. We will always rememberthe beautiful grade of hair she had that she kept cut short. Ida received her call from heaven and the Master received her into His care on TuesdayNovember 10, 2020 at 6:30 pm while surrounded by her family at home. She wasblessed to be 92 years old. Ida is preceded in death by her parents. Her brothers, Donnie, Ronnie, Larry, Edwardand Bruce Slater. Her sister - Marlene Slater. All of her husbands - Pat, J.C andJohnson. Her eldest son - Robert Earl ‘Poogie’ Williams 3/23/1959 – 2/5/2006. Her grandson - Antonio Booker. She leaves to forever cherish her memory, her youngest son- James ‘Buck’ C. Booker, Sr. Her adopted daughter – Pamela A. Mitchell (Ronald) Her grandchildren – Tosha, Brynn, Brea, Anthony, Michael, James, Jr., Arsenio, Robert Jr., Brendon and Shiqwahn.11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.Her niece – Brenda Beaver and special friends – Pauline Johnson, Bernice McKnight and Galena Lee.Along with a host of loved ones, friends and her lifelong St. Luke Church Family.
