Freda Annie Thompson Obituary

Freda Annie Thompson (nee Wareham) passed away peacefully on November 13, 2020  at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home at 97 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Earl and leaves behind her son Gord Thompson (Val) and daughter Audrey Gousseau (Marcel ) and the late Lois Hudon (Brian). Freda is survived by her grandsons, Michael (Fareea Surtie), Robert (Kate), and David Gousseau, Mark (Kristen) and Scott (Brandi) Thompson, Kayla, Brendon and Matthew Hudon and great grand children Ashton and Brooklyn Thompson, Logan Gousseau and Blake Thompson.

Freda was born August 25, 1923, into a family of 13 children which shaped our mother into the caring, loving, unselfish and hardworking person that characterised her entire life. Freda and Earl’s marriage on August 7,1947 started a life of farming in the Cadurcis district. Freda participated fully in the mixed livestock operations that were part of the family income, while leaving the grain operation to Earl. Freda always maintained a large yard and planted a large garden, a major source of year round meals, that would become the main focus of her time during the summer. Freda enjoyed the outdoors; nature would become a major source of contentment for her. In later years on the farm, she would walk to a familiar stone, sit and take in the peace and quiet. Freda was a meticulous housekeeper and took pride in hosting family gatherings in her home until the last 3 or 4 years of her life.

Freda was an active member of the local Cadurcis Church Community Ladies Club, the Minnedosa Agricultural Society and the Minnedosa and District Heritage Village. Throughout Freda’s adult life she kept a daily diary and scrape books of community and family events, both valuable reminders of the life she led. Freda’s pastimes included reading, knitting, crocheting, doing macrame and refinishing furniture. If our mother had a life time method of operation it would be: if it had to be done, get it done whether you like it or not!

Special thanks are extended to the staff at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home for their excellent  care and communication with family since her admission in August 2019.

I shall pass through this world but once

Any good that I can do or any kindness that I can

show to any human being let me do it now

Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at Cadurcis cemetery. Donations if desired can be made to the Minnedosa Agricultural Society.
