Darrell Wayne Adkins, Sr.

<p><strong>New Port Richey, FL</strong></p> <p><strong>Darrell Wayne Adkins, Sr. died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 14, 2020 in New Port Richey, FL, at the age of 76.</strong></p> <p><strong>Darrell is survived by his wife: Carolyn Adkins; four children: Gregory Lee Adkins of Stateline, IN, Jenny Lou Merrell-Hall (Matthew) of Danville, IL, Darrell Wayne Adkins, Jr. of Whiteville, NC and Darren James Adkins active military in Italy; a twin sister: Phyllis Adkins of Tabor City, NC; nephew Michael Wayne Adkins of Tabor City, NC; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his mother: Devera Faircloth Adkins of Tabor City, NC; father: Sebert &ldquo;Jim&rdquo; Adkins of Racine, WV; and a brother: Michael Adkins of Charleston, WV.</strong></p> <p><strong>Darrell was born on July 25, 1944 in Charleston, SC to Sebert and Devera Adkins.&nbsp; He graduated from South Charleston High School in South Charleston, WV and then the University of South Florida with a degree in business.&nbsp; Darrell served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Intrepid.&nbsp; After the military, he moved to Florida.&nbsp; Darrell began working for St. Petersburg Police as a patrolman and later retired from the department a detective in the homicide division.&nbsp; He then went on to become a Probation Officer and from there retiring again as a Captain for the Florida State Division of Insurance Fraud.</strong></p> <p><strong>Darrell was a big-time Tampa Bay sports enthusiast, loving the Buccaneers, Rays and the Lightning.</strong></p> <p><strong>A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 12:30 PM in the Powell Cemetery, Tabor City, NC.</strong></p> <p><strong>Visitation will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home.</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><b>A service of Inman Ward Funeral Home and Crematory.</b></p>
