Cecil Matthew Francis Yungwirth

Cecil Matthew Francis Yungwirth, age 80, of Redfield, SD passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2020, in Redfield. His funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield.  Masks and social distancing are required at the church.  The service will be live-streamed to the church’s Facebook page.  Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home.  (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

Cecil was born March 29, 1940, in Redfield, SD to Joseph and Anna Marie Struver-Yungwirth. 

He was married to Kathy Larson and was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna, brother James, and first wife Ruth of 25 years. 

Cecil grew up on the family farm, went to country school, and eventually public school.  In high school Cecil was proud to be one of the first in his class to drive.  He was always bound and determined to have a nice car.  He loved mechanics and loved to create with his hands.  After his father passed, he was a dutiful son to his mother and put her needs above his own personal life. 

Cecil worked on the family farm until the early eighties after his mother passed.  He moved to Redfield with his wife Ruth and worked at St. John Welding for approximately 15 years.  Following his welding job, he worked in sales for an over the road travel insurance company for a short time before he retired. 

Cecil married Kathy in 2007 and enjoyed thirteen years of marriage together.  Cecil learned how to navigate the large family he inherited and enjoyed playing dominoes with family and good friends Bill and Jane Newton.  They traveled to Minnesota, Montana, Washington, and other small trips to visit family until his health began to decline.

Cecil is survived by his wife Kathy; niece Autumn Spletto and husband Dave; nephews: Dennis, Patrick, and Joe Yungwirth; cousins: Doris Berkey, Shirley and Sharon Jungwirth; five great nieces and nephews; as well as many distant cousins and relatives.   

Stepfamily members include Lisa Larson (Doug), Rick Larson (Julie), Paul Larson (Sarah), Dan Larson, Greg Larson (Lisa), and Susan Larson; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
