Obituary

Vanessa was the daughter of Clara and Nelson Dease, Sr.  She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York.  Vanessa graduated from Samuel J. High, Brooklyn, NY, and Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Vanessa was a member of Sawmill Baptist Church.

Vanessa worked several years as a bank supervisor at Chase Manhattan Bank, Midtown Manhattan, NY.  Vanessa was an employee of the Marlboro County School District for 30 years as an Administrative Assistant at Clio Elementary School and Blenheim Middle School of Discovery.  She enjoyed her job helping to shape the lives of many principals, staff, and students.  Vanessa was a dedicated employee and worked diligently until the decline of her health.

Vanessa loved the Lord and her family.   Her passions were cooking, cross word puzzles, playing online computerized word games against other gamers.  Vanessa was known as the “peacemaker” within the family.  Vanessa was a very dependable individual with a warm smile and gentle demeanor.   She was truly one of the solid rocks of the Dease family’s foundation and will greatly be missed.

Vanessa was given many compliments during her lifetime; but her greatest achievement was in knowing that her son Lawrence grew up into a loving, faithful, and compassionate young man.  She observed these enduring qualities in the love and the care that he provided to her until her very last breath.  Vanessa always said of Lawrence: “My angel – Oh my angel; always in my heart”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister (Catherine Brown), and five  brothers (Andrew, Anthony, Michael, Lee Grant, and Nelson,  Jr.).
