Orlo Mostad Obituary

Orlo Mostad, 82, of Cavalier, ND, joined his beloved wife Lorraine in Heaven on November 12, 2020. Orlo was the ultimate Christmas present, born to Oscar and Hellen Mostad on Christmas Day, 1937. In all our years, we never heard him complain of getting the short end of the stick on birthday presents.

Orlo was born and raised on a farm near Vang, ND and enlisted in the U.S. Army with his best friend and cousin, Larry, in 1957. Once discharged he returned home and married the love of his life, Lorraine Beauchamp on November 28, 1961. Orlo had a passion for agriculture combined with a keen sense of business and began managing a series of successful co-op grain elevators in Walhalla, Berwick and Crary, ND, then Herman, MN, finally finishing his career with Farmer’s Co-op Elevator in Cavalier, ND in 1999.

These are a few of his favorite things:

His greatest love was his wife of nearly 59 years, Lorraine Marie, who passed away a few months before him. He simply couldn’t wait to join her.
His two beloved daughters, Brenda and Jennifer. If there was ever a man born to win Dad-of-the-year award, it was him. Always kind, gentle and filled with grace.
Cora and Ariana – his two granddaughters. He loved playing card games, snuggling with Ari on his lap and listening to Cora sing Amazing Grace.
He loved family. With a large extended family, nights were often filled with card games and laughter. In his earlier years, he often spent Saturday nights Waltzing with Lorraine.
He loved going on crop tours, playing solitaire on his iPad, and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Orlo had a dry sense of humor with responses like: “Are you working hard, or hardly working?” and “Funny? Laughing funny or funny peculiar?”

Orlo is survived by his children: Brenda Erickson (Charles Marlen) Henderson, NV and Jennifer Strickler, Farmington, MN, two beloved granddaughters Cora and Ariana, his sister Doreen (Elvin) Thorlakson, Cavalier, ND; and brother Manferd (Mary) Mostad, Walhalla, ND. Orlo was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Alice Mostad, Norma (Allan) Smith and Charlotte (Hector) Beauchamp, and brothers Jerdis Mostad, Rollin Mostad and Dennis Mostad.

Due to Covid-19 there will be a private memorial service. Inurnment will be at the Fargo National Cemetery in the spring.

Family prefers no flowers for the service.
