Funeral Recording

Gregory John White, our loving son, brother, uncle, and friend returned to his heavenly home on November 11, 2020.  Born April 11, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dennis and Sherry White, he was the fifth son in a household of boys.

Greg was born in Cottonwood Heights and from the very beginning, brightened everyone’s lives with his infectious laugh, sense of humor, and kind, caring heart.

With the non-stop commitment of his loving mother, Greg earned his Eagle Scout award in the Boy Scouts and joined his four older brothers in the White family Eagles Nest.

Greg went to Brighton High School, where he played football and had many friends. He graduated in 1995. After high school, Greg served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Recife, Brazil. He loved his time and the people there and always yearned to return.

After his mission, he graduated from Salt Lake Community College and also attended Westminster College.

Greg held a wide range of jobs, from 3D animator to a sales and service manager, and various other jobs, but his true passion was art, which he excelled in.

Greg had natural artistic ability from an early age. For example, you could always find him drawing shoes that you wish you could wear. As an adult, he was most at home in his art studio, located at the historic Baldwin Radio Factory in Millcreek.

He loved the Wasatch Front, in particular, the Cottonwood Canyons, which figured prominently in many of his paintings. He had an artistic eye and impressive ability to notice detail and beauty in the world, whether it was a mountain scene, reflection in the water, sunset, snow covered ground, or a pattern in a fabric.

He loved watching the Utah Jazz, making or playing music on his guitar, hanging out with close friends, and spending time in the mountains.  He loved to joke that he was the last lone conservative living in Sugarhouse.

The highlight of Sunday dinner at Mom’s was when Greg would arrive and make his killer guacamole. He had an eclectic style that was all his own and would sometimes show up in a unique ensemble. We were amused by this and knew Greg was staying true to himself.

Greg was loved by all, especially his older nieces and nephews who viewed him as a true mentor and friend. He reached out regularly to check on them, offer encouragement, and express genuine love and concern for whatever they were doing or going through. 

In the end, we did not know how sick Greg was, probably because he did not want anyone to fuss over him. That was not who he was. We will miss him every day until we have our glorious reunion with him.

Survived by father (Dennis) and mother (Sherry), brothers Aaron (Laurie), Matt (Brooke), Nathan (Kimberly), Wade (Karlin) and 20 nieces and nephews (Weston, Jackson, Whitney, Josh, Joey, Shaun, Ryan, Caleb, Cole, Chase, Bronwyn, Sophie, Zachary, Xander, Hazen, Avaree, Weston, Bo, Franklin, and Edison) that loved him so dearly.

We’re so sorry but due to Utah’s strict COVID19 guidelines they are only allowing immediate family at the funeral on Wednesday, November 18th at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ward house – 8170 South Shorthills Dr., Cottonwood Heights, UT  84121

Following the Funeral around 1:15 or 1:30 you are welcome to stop by the gravesite at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery – 3115 E Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, UT  84121, please wear a mask.
