Jirair Antranig Gurunian Obituary

Jirair Antranig Gurunian, born in Aleppo, Syria on November 9, 1951. Passed away peacefully, aged 68 on November 8, 2020 due to a long hard battle with diabetes and heart complications.

 

In 1974 he left Aleppo to work on a merchant marine cargo ship as an Electrician for four years. During his time on the ship he traveled through the mediterranean, Europe and Africa, exploring many different places in the world. Jirair gained many new experiences and languages on the way including: Arabic, Turkish, Greek and Russian sometimes acting as a translator. In 1978 he took a huge leap in his life and Left all his belongings aboard ship as he fled the port of Ft.Lauderdale, Florida with empty pockets without passport and documentation. He found a job at Shock Chevrolet and worked there for two months to be able to have rent after sleeping in his car and showering at the beach.During his time in florida he often did volunteer work such as driving  a  school bus for the armenian sunday school in miami. In 1982 he brought family over from Syria to help bring them  a better life, he was devoted and did everything he could to help them get on their feet. In september 1990 he met the love of his life Arsho here at St. David Armenian church and got married in 1991, they went on to have three boys in the coming years: Antranig, Harout and Hagop. Family was Jirairs pride and joy his children gave him the best years of his life. His family and business meant the world to him, He worked day and night 7 days a week to provide for his family and give them a life he never had when he was younger. He went on to build his own home in 1999 with his bare hands with help from his close friends. Jirair was a man that could walk into any room and make a lasting impression.Often catching people off guard with his humor and sarcasm. Jirairs' last years were spent traveling to many different countries with his wife, experiencing some of his favorite cultures and food. The final year of his life was a fight for Jirair as he took on major heart problems moving in and out of hospitals, he never complained and never was a man to give up. During his final months he spent his time at home with his family where he was the happiest.Jirair was grateful to have his wife and children by his side until his very last moment where he passed away peacefully. Jirair will be missed dearly by all who were a part of his life, never forgotten, forever in our memories

Jirair is survived by ( His wife Arsho,And three sons Anto, Harout, Hagop) The Kochkerian family, The Otto Family and The Sarkisian family.
