Simon Jacob Howell Obituary

Lakewood, WV—Simon Jacob Howell, 26, of Lakewood, WV, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020, while hunting in Colorado. Born in Pittsburg, PA, on February 23, 1994, he was the beloved son of Lisa D. Howell and Tom Hartsuch, and Christopher Howell and Shannon McPartland. Simon was preceded in death by his aunt, Karen Howell. Whenever Simon walked into a room, his charisma, along with his beautiful smile, was unmistakable. He had a unique way of making everyone he met, even those whom he had known for a short period of time, feel as if they had known him for a lifetime. Simon meant the world not only to those to whom he was closest, but also to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Simon graduated from Bishop Walsh School in 2012. In high school, he was a member of the football and baseball teams. Simon was also a member of the chess club. Bishop Walsh School was dear to his heart both during his tenure representing the burgundy and white and after his graduation. He often reminisced about fond memories of battling with his Spartan brothers on the football gridiron and baseball diamond. Bishop Walsh was a perfect school for Simon, since he was raised to be a devout Catholic. Following high school, Simon continued his academic career at West Virginia University. Shortly after arriving in Morgantown, Simon joined the Kappa Alpha order where he continued to foster lifelong friendships. He graduated from West Virginia University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Presently, Simon was employed as a construction inspector with RK&K Engineering. Simon was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. At a very young age it was evident that Simon was a skilled marksman. He enjoyed helping others achieve their potential. This made him a devoted member of the National Rifle Association and the Fort Hill Rod and Gun Club. His finest days were spent deep in the woods with his family and friends. Simon loved sharing his experiences outdoors with those closest to him. Whether it was a good day or bad day in the woods, Simon cherished every last moment he spent in the outdoors. Simon currently enjoyed hunting excursions, but his love for the outdoors paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. As much of a skilled outdoorsman as Simon was, he was an even a better son, brother, grandson, and friend. Simon was also an excellent cook; he attributed his culinary skill to the training he received from his Mama. Both Chris and Lisa were proud of Simon’s work ethic. They knew he would do any task to the best of his ability. In addition to his parents, Simon is survived by his sister, Claire Howell; maternal grandparents, Vivian and Harold Logsdon, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Marjorie Howell, and Rita and Charles Howell, Jr.; great-grandmother, Geraldine Wilson; uncles, Harold “Hank” Logsdon, Charles Howell, III and wife, Carol, Brian Howell and wife, Erica; aunts, Marianne Logsdon-Little, and Beth Howell Leake. Simon is also survived by his dearest friends who he considered not only his pals but his brothers, Greg Hendershot, Pat Jones, Evan Dunn, Liam Rhodes, Bill Conroy, Michael Dwyer, John Smith, John King, and many more. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue on Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 2-5 P.M. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home at 5 P.M. Simon’s close family members may attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Monday, November 16, 2020, at 3 P.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Simon’s memory may do so by making contributions to Friends Aware, 1601 Holland St., Cumberland, MD 21502. Condolences may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com.
