Hubert Preston Woolum Obituary

Hubert Preston Woolum, 82 of Rock House Mountain, Brenton, WV departed this life Thursday, November 12, 2020 from his residence.

Born on August 26, 1938 in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ola Mae (Jones) Woolum.

Hubert enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and working puzzles.  He was better known as the “Candy Man” because of being great at making candy for his friends and family.  Hubert was a retired Coal Miner and a member of the Justice Tabernacle Church.

Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his loss are his wife: Bonnie Woolum of the home; daughters: Phyllis (Jim) Hayes of Gary, Mary (Ray) Burks of Hillsville, VA., Carla (Wayne) Harmon of Advance, NC; son: David (Darlene) Woolum of Canada, KY; stepdaughters Fran (Mike) Evans of Mt. Hope, Eva (Doug) Pelfry of Oceana; stepsons: Lee (Roberta) Hatfield of Ashboro, NC and Allen Hatfield of Coal Mountain; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters: Goldie Baker of Princeton, Pearl Cresong of Man; brothers: Charles Woolum, Bill (Shirley) Woolum, Ravin Woolum, all of Varney, Alvin (Shirley) Woolum of Coal Mountain.  He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family on Monday, November 16, 2020  at 1:00 pm for a graveside service at the Woolum Family Cemetery (located beside his residence) at Rock House Mountain, Brenton, WV, with Pastor Randall Staton officiating.

Hubert will be carried to his resting place by his family and friends.

His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
