<p>Joyce M. Maher of Harwinton died November 12th 2020 at home.&nbsp; She was the wife of Jeffrey Maher.&nbsp; Born in Mt. Vernon NY,&nbsp; she was the daughter of the late James and Shirley (Smith) Walker.&nbsp; Joyce graduated from Hamden High School (CT) in 1961.&nbsp; She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Bremerton WA where she received training as a Hospital Corpsman.&nbsp; Upon discharge from the Navy,&nbsp; Joyce continued her nursing education earning her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate from Kaynor Technical School/Waterbury Hospital.&nbsp; She worked 28 years as a LPN including 20 years at Valerie Manor in Torrington.&nbsp; Joyce loved her family and her animals.&nbsp; She raised and handled Irish Setters for many years and later on, Welsh Springer Spaniels.&nbsp; She also enjoyed her cats,&nbsp; her parrot, her tropical fish, and the many wild turkeys and other birds that would visit her yard.&nbsp; She also loved to bowl in the senior league at Sky Top Lanes where she made many friends. She was a loyal Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching game shows on television.</p> <p>Beside her husband of 52 years,&nbsp; she leaves a son Christopher Maher of Canton,&nbsp; daughter Amy Maher of Burlington, and five grandchildren,&nbsp; Elizabeth, Alex, and Carolyn Gallagher,&nbsp; and Kyle and Luke Maher.&nbsp; She was predeceased by her first born son Michael in 2014.&nbsp; Also left behind are numerous relatives and many good friends.</p> <p>Graveside Services will be held Wednesday Nov 18th at 11 AM at Hillside Cemetery 76 Walnut St Torrington.&nbsp; Calling Hours are Tuesday Nov. 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers,&nbsp; memorial donations may be made to the Little Guild 285 Sharon-Goshen Tpke West Cornwall CT 06796.&nbsp; www.phalenfuneral.com</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
