Jeanette Helen Hendricks Obituary

JEANETTE HELEN HENDRICKS passed peacefully in her sleep on November 12, 2020 in Enderlin North Dakota.  She was born on August 25, 1924 in Northland Township near Fort Ransom, North Dakota to Martin and Helen Libak.   Jeanette attended country school and graduated from Fort Ransom High School.   She married Erling (Bud) Hendricks on May 25, 1946.  In November of 1946 they had one son, Jon Edward.   From 1948-1949 they owned and operated a grocery store in Fort Ransom.  They moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked in the insurance industry for 25 years.  In 1980 Jeanette and Bud moved back to North Dakota where they owned and operated Bud’s Saloon in Kathryn.  In 1985, they retired in Enderlin.    They belonged to First Lutheran Church in Enderlin where Jeanette was active in circles.  She was widowed in 1989.

In Enderlin she had a large yard which she loved decorating with flowers; Peonies were one of her favorites.   Jeanette enjoyed antiquing, crafting, and going to auctions.  She spent much of her time sewing dolls and quilts.    Much of her handmade goods were sold during Sheyenne Valley Arts and Crafts Festival but each year a few nieces and nephews received a lot of Aunt Jeanette’s love in those handmade gifts.

Jeanette lived a long life and in good health.   Her last few years she lived at Maryhill Manor as her eyes and ears were failing her.   She received wonderful care from the staff there and we thank them for all they did.

She is survived by her sister, Janice (Pat) Eng, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son, Jon Edward Hendricks, husband, Erling Oswald Hendricks, parents, Martin and Helen Libak, siblings, Bernice (Willard) Larson, Harriet (Harold) Henrikson, Adeline (Jerry) Packard, Marvin (Elsa) Libak, Howard Libak, Jerome Libak and baby Libak, and several nieces and nephews.

She is remembered as a “survivor” having lived through the Great Depression, tuberculosis, running the household and businesses in Bud’s absence, maintaining a house and yard for 20+ years as a widow, and outliving much of her family and most of her friends.  It was a combination of stubbornness and her faith in God that got her through.  We pray she had more joys than trials.

There will be no service at this time.  We hope to gather safely in the spring of 2021 to remember one of the Greatest Generation.

Jeanette had expressed that should there be any assets left when she died that they should be distributed between the church she last attended and the family cemetery.    If you wish to give in her memory, these are the organizations you should give to: (First Lutheran Church,326 Bluff St. Enderlin, ND 58027) or Preston Cemetery Fund Inc. C/O Myron Hammer, 12053 57 St SE Kathryn, ND 58049).
