John (Jack) Benjamin Schoemperlen Obituary

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of John "Jack" Benjamin Schoemperlen on November 10th, 2020 at the age of 95 years.

Jack was born in Strathclair on April 15th, 1925 to Ben and Hannah Schoemperlen along with five siblings: Clifford, Clarence, Eugene, George and Mavis (all predeceased).  He spent his entire life there, marrying Eleanor McLeod December 23rd, 1949 and raising their 3 children: Alan, Gerry and Lisa.  Jack was very hard working as a Grain Buyer at Strathclair and Glossop while also farming South and West of town.  He served as a Seaman in the Royal Canadian Navy for 5 years and was the last serving WWII Veteran in Strathclair; he was a lifelong Legion member.  Jack and Eleanor took great pride in decorating their house for Christmas & Halloween - winning many awards.  Keeping a neat and perfect yard and garden was very important to Jack and he could be seen riding his lawn mower and gardening into his 90's.  Jack had a passion for sports with a special passion for curling.  He participated in many bonspiels in the area and even participated with the construction of the "new" (1961) curling/skating rink.  Retirement saw Jack & Eleanor spend time camping with their motorhome enjoying trips through Canada and US to attend various music festivals.  Family was very important to Jack and will miss his many catchy sayings like: "pretty G", "okey dokey smokey" and "goody goody two shoes".  His kind, generous and witty character resulted in many friendships and aquaintances over the years.

Jack leaves to mourn his wife of 70 years Eleanor, sons Alan (Lucie), Gerry (Lois), daughter Lisa (Scott); 5 grandchildren Sheri (Harry), Michelle (JP), Paul (Annette), Hannah (Shaun) and Hayden; and 4 great grandchildren Severin, Keira, Hudson and Harley.

We would sincerely like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Morley House PCH in Shoal Lake where Jack resided for the last 3 years.

A private funeral service will be held at Rae's Funeral Chapel in Shoal Lake on Monday, November 16th.  Interment will take place on a later date at the Strathclair Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Strathclair Legion Branch #154.
